(FOB) Fecal Occult Blood Test
The FOB Test is a rapid, visual immunochromatographic test for the qualitative detection of human blood hemoglobin in fecal specimens. The Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOB Test) is mainly used for screening of early colon cancer. Blood in the stool may be the only symptom of early cancer. If detected early, treatment can be conducted immediately to improve the chance of cure.
The FOB Test can not diagnose cancer, but if it indicates a positive result, other follow-up procedures are required to find the source of the bleeding. The presence of blood may indicate other gastrointestinal problems, such as blood loss from a bleeding ulcer.
